This painting is the first canvas of a triptych. It depicts a man who embarked on a dangerous voyage, encountering various temptations along the way. The voyage symbolizes the journey through life, and the idea behind this painting is that everyone, on their life’s voyage, must ensure they are not overcome by earthly temptations, nor succumb to them, but rather overcome all demons with the will and strength of spirit.

The demonic bird offers the man a mask, allowing him to enter a world that is staged and masked. Will he resist such a temptation?
