The temptation of Jesus (2024)
Oil on canvas, 100×70 cm
This painting is inspired by the biblical story of the Temptation of Jesus, as described in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. According to scripture, after being baptized by John the Baptist, Jesus fasted for 40 days and nights in the Judaean Desert. During this time, Satan appeared to Jesus and attempted to tempt him into sin. Jesus, having resisted each temptation, saw the Devil depart, after which He returned to Galilee to begin His ministry. Satan’s temptations were related to hedonism, egoism, and materialism. This painting portrays one of the temptations linked to hedonism (“lust of the body”) -where Satan, or “the tempter,” urges Jesus to turn stones into bread to relieve His hunger.
